Ralph Erwin Wasson (‘Bud’)

Ralph Erwin “Bud” Wasson, age 86, of DeWitt entered eternal life on Thursday morning, July 14, 2022 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Bud was born on Aug. 24, 1935, in Shelby, Mason County, Michigan, the fifth child and only son of Ralph and Minerva (Johnson) Wasson, Sr. Bud graduated from Montague High School in 1953. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. On Nov. 22, 1957, he married Eleanor Knight at Fife Lake Methodist Church.
He worked for Ohio Plate Glass in Traverse City until he and Eleanor co-started the Flap Jack Shacks in the greater Traverse City areas in 1975. In 1983 Bud and Eleanor opened the Flap Jack Restaurants in the Lansing area, the last one in DeWitt in 2008 until their retirement in 2020.
Bud is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eleanor; his children, Deb (Mark) Waslawski of Kingsley, Dennis Wasson of DeWitt and Dewayne (Alicia) Wasson of DeWitt; his grandchildren, Bradley (Carrie) Waslawski, Britten Waslawski, Brandy (Gene Perritt) Waslawski, Rosa (James) Wagoner, Doug (Rachel) Wasson and Shannon Wasson; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Douglas in 1962; four sisters, Rose (Victor) Bliss, Mary (Bill) Wilde, Virginia (James) Burley and Betty (Richard) Ericson.
Bud was a skilled craftsman and a generous and compassionate person. He was always willing to help others out when needed. During their restaurant years, Bud and Eleanor worked closely together and appreciated all the employees and customers they met during their time at the restaurants. Service to others brought him joy every day.
Per Bud’s wishes there will not be a public service, a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
