Lady Spartans a No. 5-seed, will play Lansing in state tourney’s opening round at White Auditorium; tourney brackets finalized

After claiming a state tournament on Saturday night, the Emporia Lady Spartans now begin preparations for their first-round opponent at White Auditorium.

Emporia, 17-5, has the no. 5-seed. The Lady Spartans will take on No. 4-seed Lansing (19-3) at 8 pm Thursday. If Emporia wins, the Lady Spartans will play the winner of the Salina Central-De Soto matchup at 8 pm Friday. Salina Central is the top seed with a 22-0 record, while De Soto is the No. 8-seed at 15-7.

Salina Central and De Soto play at 6 pm Thursday.

The other half of the bracket has no. 2-seed St. Thomas Aquinas (20-2) against No. 7-seed Spring Hill (16-6) at 2 pm Thursday, followed by No. 3-seed Bishop Carroll (19-3) against No. 6-seed Andover Central (17-5) at 4 pm. The semifinal game for this side of the bracket is at 4 pm Friday.

The third-place game Saturday is at 2 pm. The championship game is at 6:15 pm.

The rest of the schedule for area teams is as follows:

*For the Class 1A Division I tournament in Dodge City, the Olpe boys (22-1) are the top seed and will play No. 8-seed Troy (16-7) at 2 pm Wednesday. The Burlingame girls (20-2) are the No. 6-seed and face Little River (22-1) at 8 pm Thursday.
*At the Class 1A Division II tournament in Great Bend, the No. 6-seed Waverly boys (13-10) face no. 3-seed Almena-Northern Valley (21-2) at 4 pm Wednesday. the no 3-seed Lebo girls (22-1) take on No. 6-seed Hanover (19-4) at 8 pm Thursday.
*At the Class 2A tournament in Manhattan, the Lyndon boys (No. 3-seed, 21-2) play No. 6-seed Sterling (18-5) at 4 pm Thursday.
*At the Class 3A tournament in Hutchinson, the Osage City boys (No. 5-seed, 20-3) will play Southeast Saline (No. 4-seed, 20-3) at 4 pm Wednesday. Santa Fe Trail’s girls (No. 6-seed, 19-4) plays No. 3-seed Hugoton (21-2) at 8 pm Thursday.
