Thomas Hess Obituary (1951 – 2021) – Traverse Metropolis, MI

Thomas “Tommy” Aquinas Hess, 70 years old, of Traverse City, Michigan, died peacefully at home on November 2nd, 2021, surrounded by loving friends and family.

Tommy was born to Benjamin (BG or Bunny) Gustus Hess and Nannette (Merrill) Hess on May 20, 1951 in Albany, Louisiana. He graduated from Hammond High School in 1969 and earned an associate’s degree in industrial engineering from Northwestern Community College, Traverse City, Michigan in 1992.

Tommy is survived by his 21-year-old partner Kathie Piper; Siblings Hurd and Wendy Hess from Iowa, Ann (Hess) and Jim Hassenboehler, Mike and Martha Hess, Dorothy (Hess) and Danny Kropog and Merrill and Rebecca Hess as well as twelve nieces and nephews. His parents died before him.

Tommy moved to Traverse City, Michigan in 1972, where he enjoyed the natural beauty of the area. Tommy touched everyone he met and hugged everyone with his big heart. He was a great-uncle to many children and, according to Kathie, his partner, the “best man she has ever met”. He will be missed very much, but his memories are numerous and live on with the many people whose lives he has touched.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Thursday, November 18, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, Michigan
