Cooking has always been a tradition in her family, she says.
“I grew up with women who my grandmother and mother cooked, aunts. It was kind of a natural thing for us. Like we’re all getting together, we’re actually going to talk and talk in the kitchen while Grandma was cooking, or my mother was cooking, or my aunt was cooking, “said Davis.” I was very inspired. That’s how I get my recipes from my grandma , my mom, my aunts. “
She has no recipe cards, just memories full of love. She says soul food reminds her of home. And that’s what the atmosphere feels like in their restaurant, also because all of their workers are their children.

“It’s a blessing. I’m just so grateful that God has blessed me with my nine children where they can actually help me create something that really is for them,” said Davis.
Her son Lamilo Morris says he is proud that his mother made her dream come true.
He’s the deep fryer, “makes chicken and stuff, catfish and okra,” said Morris. “It’s actually pretty great. You know, we cook a lot of good things, get a lot of good customers. It’s pretty cool. I like working with the family.”

Davis opened the restaurant back in October. She hopes to run a franchise one day. But for now, her main priority is to focus on the community she now serves.
“Keeping my customers happy, to make sure everything is right, the food, the service and everything. That’s my goal,” said Davis.
