SafeHouse Center and the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild support domestic violence survivors with an online quilt sale
The Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild (GAAQG) and the SafeHouse Center have teamed up to raise awareness of domestic violence in October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
More than 60 quilts will be on display in an online store starting October 1st and will run for the entire month or until all quilts are sold.
the “SafeHouse Quilts for Sale”, is featured on the SafeHouse Center website
and range from $ 200 to $ 400 each. The quilts are 60 “by 80” or larger. There will be a roadside pickup option and an option to ship with UPS. And 100 percent of the proceeds will go to SafeHouse.
The partnership between GAAQG and SHC spans 32 years. Every year generous GAAQG members make and donate approximately 300 quilts to SHC. The residents of the shelter are given a comforting quilt, and best of all – survivors and their children are allowed to keep their quilts when they leave the shelter.
“All of our quilts are made with love and in the hope that we can show the residents of the SafeHouse Center in a very small way that they are not alone,” says Lynne Bryant GAAQG President. “Our members use their talent and creativity to give a beautiful, physical reminder that there are people who care for them. The later ex-residents of the decade will come up to one of us and say, “I still have my blanket.”
“The convenience of having a handmade quilt during a traumatic time shows survivors that there are people in our community who care for them. We are so grateful to the great members of the GAAQG for their years of support, ”said Barbara Niess-May, Executive Director of the SafeHouse Center.
