Boot Camp is aimed at entrepreneurs who are ready to evaluate and validate the feasibility of their business concept, build a business model and find beta customers. Participants receive hands-on help testing ideas in an intensive multi-week program in which they interact with multiple mentors and investors in the early stages.

“Ann Arbor SPARK’s Entrepreneur Boot Camp experience transforms participating companies – they receive an incredible depth of advice from experts whose impact on an entrepreneur’s long-term success cannot be underestimated. In fact, Boot Camp would not be possible without the mentors and consultants who are committed to empowering our technology ecosystem through business creation and growth, ”said Bill Mayer, Ann Arbor SPARK vice president of Entrepreneurial Services. “Throughout the process, we see companies flip, we see companies explore new opportunities they didn’t consider, and we see some companies give up when they realize that the potential for success is not what they have accepted. All of the boot camp results help a company move forward much faster than it would on its own. “

The grand prize winner, HeloGenika, is an Ann Arbor-based precision genomics startup focused on cancer diagnostics. It develops state-of-the-art solutions to introduce speed and scalability into current molecular pathology laboratory practices. Its goal is to reduce the workload for busy pathologists and ultimately create a better experience for cancer patients receiving genomic testing.

“Ann Arbor SPARK’s Entrepreneur Boot Camp was an eye-opening learning experience for us, and we just wish we’d signed up sooner,” said Snehal Patel, founder of HeloGenika. “We have gained invaluable knowledge through formal didactics on critical topics for new companies and practical experience with pitching and customer discovery. Boot Camp even helped us build invaluable relationships with business mentors in the Ann Arbor community. The money we won at Boot Camp will go towards the legal fees for the formation of two strategic partnerships and the initiation of the patent application process. “

The runner-up in the Entrepreneur Boot Camp Culturewell helps healthcare companies know which germs grow in their clinical environment. It reduces healthcare acquired infections through its subscription-based technology and laboratory services. Culturewell provides insights into a risk profile and map of germ hotspots to help healthcare executives decide where limited resources are being used to get the maximum benefit.
