Throughout the summer, the City of Detroit will host vaccination clinics for children ages 5 to 17, on select Saturdays at various recreation centers across the city. Vaccinations include the COVID-19 vaccine and lead testing.

dr Iris Taylor, director of nursing for the City of Detroit, says all kids deserve equitable medical attention.

“We want our children to be as healthy as possible,” Taylor says. “So we want them to be immunized according to the standards for the practice of health.”

Parents and guardians can also get tested and inoculated. Taylor says the mobile-style clinics aim to engage with communities often overlooked. She says the city has reached out to other community-based organizations that trust people in an effort to ease anxiety among Black Detroiters seeking medical attention.

“We’re asking those trusting voices, ‘Are you willing to commit to helping [Detroiters] be healthier? And if so, are you willing to be our partners and get the message out? Are you willing to be a partner in helping us to have opportunities to have conversations so that people can understand why this is very important, so that they can engage?”

The clinics will be held on the following dates:

Farwell Rec Center, 2711 Outer Drive East
10 am to 2 pm, Saturday, May 21

Patton Rec Center, 2301 Woodmere St.
10 am to 2 pm, Saturday, June 25
