It happened on the 18,900 block of Beland, one block south of Seven Mile, around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

The family and friends of a 25-year-old woman who was shot in the east of the city struggle to get a grip on her untimely death.

It happened on the 18,900 block of Beland, one block south of Seven Mile, around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

“Officials in the immediate area heard gunshots at Beland, (we) reacted to the area and found female gunshots on the street several times,” said Cmdr. Eric Decker, Detroit Police Department. “Of course we asked EMS to try to help her, but unfortunately she passed away.”

In addition to the 25-year-old woman, a man is said to have been shot. He was taken to a local hospital in a temporarily serious condition.

The investigators assume that the two victims knew each other. The police currently know little about the shooter.

The woman has a young son and was her mother’s carer.

“It’s very tragic,” Decker said. “We don’t have all the facts right now. Our homicide team is here, we’re collecting the facts. We need the community’s help.”

There have been 244 murders in Detroit that year. That is 13 more than at the same point in time in 2020.

According to the latest FBI crime statistics, Detroit remains one of the most violent cities in the country, ranking second behind Memphis, Tennessee.

“The Detroit Police Department, we are doing everything we can to contain this violence,” Decker said. “It starts with the guns, so our officers are out here taking guns and risking their lives every day to reduce it. But we have scenes like this and … we have a 25 year old girl, that she lost. ” Life.”
