‘We’re moving backwards’: Grand Rapids Women’s March garners crowd on Blue Bridge

Crowds gathered on the Blue Bridge in Grand Rapids to share stories about why they chose to attend the event and why they stood up for the election.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – The Women’s March took place on the Blue Bridge in Grand Rapids on Saturday night. Crowds have gathered to listen to people’s stories of why they chose to end and why they stand up for a choice.

The Grand Rapids event today was one in a hundred across the country. Each time people exchanged stories and marched for the right to abortion.

The global event comes in the wake of new abortion laws in Texas, which ban abortion approximately 6 weeks after conception.

Participants said they weren’t just there for themselves.

“I think it’s great that so many speak for themselves, but also those who, as I said, can’t speak for themselves,” said Aly, an activist who was at the event in Grand Rapids.

“I think it’s really important to show solidarity in these cases because we are essentially moving backwards and these laws are created by men who have no idea what we are going through with our bodies.”
