Two Ann Arbor restaurants land on PETA’s list of Best Vegan Chili Dishes for 2021

ANN ARBOR – Two local restaurants have earned a spot on PETA’s list of the best vegan chili dishes in 2021.

Lunch Room Bakery & Cafe and its sister restaurant, Detroit Street Filling Station made the list with their Hearty Chili – a dish made with black and kidney beans, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, tomatillo, and savory spices. The dish is also gluten-free, nut-free and soy-free and therefore allergy-friendly.

Both restaurants, owned by Phillis Engelbert, are vegan and offer a wide variety of plant-based dishes and drinks such as soy-based nacho dogs, tempeh reubens, buffalo cauliflower wings, bubble tea with coconut milk and more.

“Chili bowls are the ultimate convenience food, and this comes with the reassuring thought that no animals have been harmed,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement. “PETA celebrates The Lunch Room and the Detroit Street Filling Station for helping people enjoy their favorite foods without cruelty or cholesterol.”
