Traverse City Program Helps Hotel Workers Pay For Child Care

Traverse City Tourism is participating in a new pilot program to help hotel workers find affordable childcare.

Under the Tri-Share program, childcare costs are shared between parents, Traverse City Tourism, and the state of Michigan.

Funds approved by Legislature and Governor Whitmer will be available until next July but can be extended until 2023.

The President of Traverse City Tourism hopes the program will help the hospitality industry recruit and retain skilled workers.

Funding is provided through United Way of Northwest Michigan in partnership with employers in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties.

Parents’ household income must be between 150% and 250% of the federal poverty guidelines. That means a family of four would have to earn between $ 39,750 and $ 66,250 to qualify.

Applicants must also work more than 25 hours per week in participating hotels.

Further information on the program can be found here.
