Prep roundup: Elks, Sabres pitch shutouts, will meet for district title | Local Sports

ELK RAPIDS – Two teams that knock out their opponents on Monday are playing for a district title.

Traverse City Christian ended Kalkaska’s season with a 6-0 win in the semi-finals on Monday in Elk Rapids. The Elks defeated Grayling in an 8-0 mercy win on the same field later that day and set up the district final between the Sabers (16-5) and the Elks (16-4-3) at 6pm on Thursday at Elk Rapids.

The two teams met at the beginning of this season, with the Elks winning 5-0.

“This is a different game so I expect a different result,” said Nate Plum, Elk Rapids coach.

Nolan Carroll had a hat trick against the Vikings in the first half, scoring three of the game’s first five goals. Spencer Ball scored two goals with two assists. Sean Burch also scored and Elk Rapids led 7-0 at halftime.

Alex Smith scored the eighth goal in the second half and ended the game with three assists. Jack Spencer and Koa West share time online.

Against Kalkaska Traverse City Christian – which cooperates with Traverse City St. Francis and the Grand Traverse Academy – was led by Henry Reineck with three goals and an assist. Seth LaPointe and Elliott Molby both scored a goal and had an assist. Julian Ahluwalia added a goal of his own. Kia Upshaw and Roman Alekseyenko recorded assists.

Grayling’s season ends on 8-12-1. Kalkaska finishes with a record of 4-15.

Leland 4

Glen Lake 1

Leland (9-13-1) will face number 1 seed Buckley (15-4-1) in the district final after beating Glen Lake 4-1.

On Monday, the location was set for the 7pm Thursday game in Harbor Springs, but coaches and administrators were discussing other venues. The winner moves up to the Cadillac Regional.

“We are happy to play them. It will be a good game for sure,” said Leland coach Rob Sirrine.

Gabe Trujillo scored two goals for the Comets. Ben Kiesel also scored a goal and had an assist. Max Waldrup also scored a goal. Gentza Lopez made six saves. Daniel Resendiz-Nunez set up two goals.

Fischer Alonzi scored the goal from Glen Lake after an assist by Henry Plumstead. Tucker Brown made three saves.

The Lakers end their season 9-6-1.
