$134,600 to Monitor Union St. Dam in Traverse City

Traverse City commissioners approved an agreement on professional surveillance services for Union St. Dam.

AECOM will pay $ 134,600 from the Capital Projects Fund to monitor the dam.

It comes after a state dam safety inspection has brought the dam from good to bad.

Part of the Fishpass project was to replace Union St. Dam, but it has been delayed due to a lawsuit.

“I am very frustrated that we have to take this route for $ 135,000 in money that could be in our budget elsewhere,” said Traverse City Mayor Jim Carruthers. “A lot of people aren’t happy about this, but I think the majority of people understand the needs we are facing with this dam.”

AECOM will monitor Union St. Dam by performing diving inspections and surface surveillance.
