Sunset Cinema Returns To Downtown Grand Rapids

A cinematic experience born out of necessity during the pandemic will return to downtown Grand Rapids in June.

Downtown Celebration Cinema Studio Park is hosting three different evenings for Sunset Cinema on June 2nd, 16th and 20th and has already “sold out” the first night, a show by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Tickets for the next two films, The Naked Gun 2 1/2 and Pitch Perfect 2, are available online at CelebrationCinema.com and cost $ 20 for a picnic spot for four.

The rooms are socially removed from other moviegoers and guests can bring their own chairs to use in the Studio Park piazza. They ask that the chairs be no higher than 3 feet when fully upright. Last year’s mask requirement also remains in effect and they require ticket holders to wear face covering when outside their designated “pod”.

You can put water and food in a small cooler, but all coolers will go through a security check on the way into the house. So if you want to enjoy a few adult drinks, the One Twenty Three Tavern has full bar service.

Parking is available at the hotel’s Studio Park (ing) Ramp on Ottawa Ave SW 120 and is conveniently located near public transportation The Rapid, Silver Line and DASH.

In 2020, Sunset Cinema started about four months after the pandemic started to allow people to get outside and enjoy movies in a safe manner. 2020 kicked off with films like the Beatles’ yellow submarine, Baby Driver and Parasite, the winner of the best picture.
