St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor is named one of the 50 Best Cardiovascular Hospitals in the United States

ANN ARBOR, me – St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor is one of the top cardiovascular hospitals in the United States according to the latest rankings from Fortune and IBM Watson Health.

The annual Fortune / IBM 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals Study examined 951 hospitals providing cardiovascular services across the country.

The hospitals featured on the list this year outperformed their competitors while maintaining high clinical performance, lower inpatient costs and an overall better patient-hospital experience, the study said.

“I am very proud to have received recognition for our cardiovascular program, not just from national studies like this one, but also from the communities and people we serve every day,” said Alonzo, President of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Lewis. “When it comes to matters of the heart, patients across the state choose St. Joe’s.”

This year the Ypsilanti Hospital will receive an award for the 12th time.

The study by Fortune and IBM Watson Health found that if all cardiovascular programs in U.S. hospitals were as effective as the top 50 on the list, an additional 6,400 lives and approximately $ 1.4 billion could be saved. Another 5,000 bypass and angioplasty patients would also be free of complications.
