Ron Bacon elected East Lansing’s first black mayor

EAST LANSING, Michigan – East Lansing City Council has elected Ron Bacon as the next mayor.

Bacon becomes the first black mayor in East Lansing history.

He was recently elected to serve on the council for a two-year term after being named the seat of former councilor Mark Meadows following the resignation of Meadows.

Bacon is a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a background in criminal justice and has worked in the public sector for 25 years.

He is the defensive assistant coach for the college football team at East Lansing High School.

Bacon will replace Jessy Gregg, who was appointed by the council to serve the tenure of former Mayor Aaron Stephens after Stephens stepped down in August.
