LANSING, Michigan (AP) – More than $ 563 million in federal dollars goes to Michigan to repair and maintain highway bridges.

Funding comes from the bridge replacement, rehabilitation, maintenance, protection and construction program and will help repair about 1,240 bridges that are considered to be in poor condition, the transportation department said on Friday.

Improvements are also being made to more than 5,950 bridges that are considered to be in good condition.

Around 15,000 freeway bridges in the United States are to be repaired and modernized under the $ 27 billion five-year program under the Infrastructure Act passed in November.

It is administered by the federal highway administration.
