Each submission must include: the date, time and place of the event, whether it is a recurring or one-off event, and where to get additional information (phone, email and / or website). Also indicate whether the event is free or paid and how much it costs, if any.

Saturday May 1st

Tamarac Spring Clean-up Day: Visit the Tamarac National Wildlife Refug and show your love for all things wild. After a long year, the refuge needs a good spring cleaning! Attendees can stop by the visitor center parking lot at any time between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to check in and pick up snacks, garbage bags, and orange vests. Please bring your own work gloves and lunch. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing for weather conditions, and bring insect repellent. There is a dumpster in the parking lot of the visitor center to stow away the rubbish. You must return rubbish and equipment by 4:00 p.m. The visitor center is located 9 miles north of State Hwy 34 at the intersection of County Highways 29 and 26. Sunday May 2nd

Free Tree Giveaway: First Lutheran Church, 912 Lake Ave., Detroit Lakes, is hosting a free tree giveaway from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm. Come to the back parking lot and help the environment! The trees will be 6-10 inches of bare root and contain paper birch, black chokecherry, cranberry bush, splendor red crabapple, and black hills spruce. Limit three trees per person. Storytime Live: Visit Kai at the Moorhead Public Library or Eliza at the Detroit Lakes Public Library for a 10 o’clock storytime of songs and stories. This virtual event will be broadcast live on the Lake Agassiz Regional Library Facebook page (facebook.com/larlmn). A recording will be available after the presentation. Pre-registration is not required. If you join the stream before 10:30 am, just update it until the session begins.

Defensive Driving Course: A 4-hour personal defensive course is held from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at the ITOW Veterans Museum (In Their Own Words), 805 W. Main, Perham. The cost is $ 20. To register, please call Denise Lillis at 218-346-3336.

Community Job Fair: The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce, Career Force, and Rural Minnesota CEP are jointly hosting a Community Job Fair from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a new, pandemic-friendly, outdoor location in the east parking lot of Minnesota State Community & Technical College, 900 Highway 34 East, Detroit Lakes. A large number of regional employers will be on site, looking for employees of all skill levels to fill a range of open positions, from entry level to professional career positions. Church of Cash Concert: This soulful musical homage to legendary singer-songwriter Johnny Cash begins at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Holmes Theater, Detroit Lakes, 806 Summit Ave. Both personal tickets and live streaming options are available. Chamber’s Economic Development Summit: The Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Economic Development Summit from 9:00 am to 11:30 am in the Ballroom of the Historic Holmes Theater, 806 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. The Detroit Lakes 2021 Economic Development Summit will return as a face-to-face event after its virtual event last year, focusing on the local economy and future workforce. Mommy & Me Painting Class: A special Mother’s Day painting class for mothers and their children begins at 6 p.m. at the Holmes Art Cellar in the basement of the Historic Holmes Theater, 806 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes. Mothers can paint a flower pot and each child can use two canvases to paint colorful flowers for that particular work of art. The lessons take place personally; Masks are required. Annual Chamber Meeting: Members of the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce are invited to join the Board of Directors for our annual meeting starting at 8:00 am. Every year we take the time to thank our outgoing Board of Directors, to welcome our new Board members and to update members of our Chamber on the current programming.
