Food collectors give free summer meals to children in Washtenaw County

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – When schools close in the summer, families can lose an important source of food.

Food Gatherers wants to ensure Washtenaw County’s children and teenagers don’t go without meals during the summer vacation by offering free food pickups.

Take-away meal pickup locations started on Thursday June 17th, but will vary by location. However, pick-up points are in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

The pickups are designed to be non-contact and no proof of needs is required. Items available include fresh produce, dairy products, meat, and staples like canned food.

Food Gatherers is the largest sponsor of the Washtenaw County’s Summer Food Service Program, according to its website.
