Tracking Friday storms — some severe

DETROIT – Happy Friday!

Our Friday forecast has a lot of moving parts, so let’s get started right away.

Today’s sunrise was at 5:57 a.m.

Showers and thunderstorms will increase by mid-Friday morning. These morning storms will not be severe, so these will be incredibly important rains to help our moderate to severe drought conditions.

As soon as the rain and storms pull through, we get partly cloudy for a while. Then an isolated thunderstorm is possible from the afternoon to the early evening. While coverage for this afternoon’s storms will be limited, any storm that emerges can be severe. The highest risk of severe storms this afternoon – which includes even a very small risk of tornado – is south of I-94.

Friday highs will be in the mid to late 80s depending on how much sunshine we get, and you will also notice the humidity increasing.

The wind blows from south to southwest at a speed of 10 to 20 miles per hour.

Today’s sunset is at 9:13 pm

On Friday night it will be partly cloudy overnight, with lows in the mid-1960s. A southwest wind moves at 2 to 5 miles per hour.

Saturday starts partly cloudy and we should stay dry until the early afternoon.

But then, during the hottest part of the day, a compact but potent upper level disruption will pull right over us. This will create isolated thunderstorms and due to the favorable thermodynamics and kinematics at altitude, these storms can become violent. In addition to the strong risk of wind and hail, there is even a low risk of tornado.

The real-time radar in our weather app (Apple / Android) allows you to monitor the evolving weather as what is happening and, if you have activated warnings, even send a push alert to inform you about potentially dangerous weather in Informed in your area.

Saturday’s highs should hit the mid-80s and while it will be a bit humid it won’t be as humid as it was on Friday. Saturday night will be lows in the lower to mid 60s.

On Sunday it is mostly sunny to partly cloudy, with highs in the mid to late 80s.
