Grand Rapids Griffins sign Detroit Red Wings’ 2019 10th pick

The Grand Rapids Griffins have signed left wing Kirill Tyutyayev, the team announced on Saturday.

Tyutyayev, 20, was the Detroit Red Wings’ 10th election in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He was elected 190th overall.

Hailing from Yekaterinburg, Russia, the 5-foot-9, 146-pound player has scored 32 points in 43 games with Yunost Minsk of the Belarusian Extra League this season. He added 10 points (2-8-10) in 13 playoff games during the team’s run to the championship.

In 2017-18, Tyutyayev scored 114 points (47-67-114) in 31 games for Spartakovets Yekaterinburg from the Russian U18 league and led the team in all three categories. In 2018-19 he scored an average per game with Avto Yekaterinburg from MHL, Russia’s junior ice hockey league. He compiled team highs of 60 points (19-41-60) and a plus-39 score while appearing in all 60 competitions.

During the 2019-20 COVID-shortened season, he spent most of the season with Gornyak Uchaly of the VHL, Russia’s second highest pro league, contributing 20 points (3-17-20) in 27 games.

The Griffins will be visiting Rockford tonight at 7 p.m. for their first street game in four weeks. Fans can watch the game on AHLTV or tune in to WOOD 106.9 FM and 1300 AM.
