Downtown Detroit’s shopping scene continues to change amid COVID pandemic

DETROIT – The COVID pandemic is having a major impact on the Downtown Detroit landscape.

Some stores have quietly closed while others are excited to move in directly.

One moment we hear that Under Armor is closing its downtown Detroit store, but that same month job postings for a Gucci store in Detroit surface and the sugar mill announces a downtown Detroit location. The question arises: In which direction are companies going?

The pandemic hasn’t been of much help, the many people who work downtown and have brought a lot of foot traffic are still working from home.

While tough decisions have been made and one brand may close its doors, that hasn’t stopped other retailers from opening up. The hope is that the momentum will continue, especially for small businesses.
