City of East Lansing Announces New Fire Chief

EAST LANSING, Michigan (WLNS) – East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas announced the city’s new fire chief on Tuesday.

Dawn Carson will be the new head of the East Lansing Fire Department (ELFD) starting Monday, September 20th.

Carson has been with ELFD since 1994 and has been interim head since the retirement of former ELFD boss Randy Talifarro in June.

“In Chief Carson’s 27 years at ELFD, she has shown herself to be a dedicated professional who rose through the ranks of the department thanks to her high standards of service and leadership,” said East Lansing City Manager George Lahanas. “In her tenure as interim manager, Chief Carson has shown her willingness to take on this important leadership role and we have every confidence in her ability to run the department effectively in the service of East Lansing residents.”

“It is an honor and a privilege to continue my long career with the City of East Lansing as the first female chief executive of the ELFD,” said Chief Carson. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the people of East Lansing in this new capacity.”
