Cadillac nets tennis win over TC West, more preps | Sports

TRAVERSE CITY – That’s a good win.

Cadillac took a tennis win at the Big North Conference, defeating Traverse City West 5-3 on Tuesday.

“I was proud of the guys who mastered some line-up chances and still got a hard-fought win against TC West,” said Cadillac coach Matt Schaefer. “We had some JV players who got promoted and helped the team win today.

“TC West is always tough and they beat us 6-2 last season to take a 5-3 win and start 2-0 at Big North is great for our team.”

Fisher Moore won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Woodlen Paca lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

Brady Koenig won 6-1, 6-1 in 3rd place while Matt Erickson won 6-4, 6-2 in 4th place.

Kam Hearld and Chris Anderson won 6-1, 6-2 in doubles # 1, while Logan Collins and Dino Santangelo lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in second place.

Gavin Smith and Jakob Bartman won 6-2, 6-1 in third, while Max McCumber and Drew Drabik lost 6-4, 6-1 in fourth.

Cadillac welcomes Traverse City Central on Thursday.

• Cadillac won the JV game 3-2.

Ben Anderson lost 8-6 in first place in the singles, while Logan Scheanwald won 8-2 in second place.

Cole Mortenson and Trayer Langworthy won 8-3 in 1st place in doubles, while Lucas Meyjes and Mason Freeman lost 8-5 in 2nd place. Tommy Reagan and Harrison Chipman won 8-3 in 3rd place.

TRAVERSE CITY – Cadillac dropped an 8-0 win over Traverse City West in a Big North Conference soccer competition.

“I was proud of the way we played in the first half,” said Cadillac coach Paul King.

“We were only 3-0 down at halftime.

“We are a very young and experienced team.

“We are getting better”

Cadillac welcomes Petoskey on Thursday.

SUTTONS BAY – Buckley improved his Northwest Conference record to 2-0 with a 6-2 win over Northbay on Monday.

Alfonso Jimenez let the bears wait with a hat trick in the first half and then scored twice more in the second half. Luke Frasier scored the other goal.

Lorenzo Tognetti, Jake Romzek and Nick Simon each had an assist.

Josh Barley had 11 saves on the nets.

Buckley (5-4 total) hosts Glen Lake today.

BUCKLEY – The Northwest Conference’s first ever cross-country jamboree is on the books with the Buckley meeting on Tuesday.

In the girls’ category, Benzie Central took first place with 32 points, while Kingsley was second with 54 points and Glen Lake was third with 70 points.

Aiden Harrand drove the Bears in third place in 19:15, while Brooke Wilkie was 32nd in 25:49 and Allie Finzel was 46th in 31:59.

Benzie took first place among the boys with 25 points, while Frankfurt came second with 49 points and Kingsley came third with 68 points.

Jackson Kulawiak overtook Buckley in third place in 17:55, while Ben DuCheny finished sixth in 18:30, Braden Melville in 19:48 and Carter Williams in 28:19 in 38th place.

“Aiden, Jackson and Ben did really well,” said Buckley coach Ken Wicker. “The rest of our children lost all time on Saturday and did a good job.”
