Businesses named Simply the Best | Business

TRAVERSE CITY – Tom’s Food Markets received top awards in the grocery category of Traverse City Record-Eagle’s “Simply the Best” competition. Oleson’s and Meijer finished second in the category.

The number of nominations in the annual competition rose from 1,800 in 2020 to 8,300 this year. The number of votes rose from 7,000 in 2020 to 11,000 in 2021.

The winners were announced on Wednesday in a special print area of ​​the Record-Eagle and in a virtual award ceremony on Facebook. The ceremony was moderated by multiple Emmy award winner Louis J. Horvath.

The 2020 virtual award ceremony received a total of more than 57,000 views on Facebook.

“We were thrilled to see that our community supported all of these companies and professionals, especially in the tough year and a half they went through,” said Megan Fuller, Digital Sales Manager and Event Coordinator, Record-Eagle.

Big Al’s Pizza in Manistee won in the Pizza category.

“It’s pretty amazing when your customers take the time to write a review or vote,” said David Anderson, owner of Big Al. “It’s so nice to know that the community is behind you.”

Paesano’s Pizza and Crusted Creations took second place.

TCRV received the most votes in the RV Dealer category.

“It is a great honor to be voted Top Motorhome Dealer by the Readers of the Record-Eagle over the past few years. It means we’re doing something right, ”said Cody Scott.

Nature & Me RV and Team One Trailers took second place.

Culver Meadows won in the senior housing community. Runner-up were The Village at Bay Ridge and Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Salon Verve was the front runner in the hair salon category. Runner-up went to Wild Roots Hair Lab and Salon Renewal.

J&S Hamburg Süd took first place in two categories: breakfast and burger.

Bill Given at Hotel Indigo received top honors in the local chef category. Runner-up were Gary Bradt and Reflect Bistro and Devin Gordon as The Towne Plaza.

Coldwell Banker Schmidt was voted the best real estate agency. Second place went to Real Estate One and Northern Den Realty.

Rare Bird Brewpub was the front runner in the Brewery category. Runner-up went to Silver Spruce Brewing Company and The Filling Station Microbrewery.

Siler’s Lawncare won in the Lawn Service / Equipment Company category. Runner-up went to Premier Outdoors from Traverse City, LLC and Menards.

The Great Lakes Children’s Museum was the front runner in the Children’s Activities category. Second place went to the COGNiTiON Science and Discovery Center and the Dance Arts Academy.
