August 4, 2022 – Northwoods League (Northwoods) – Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI – Yale University sophomore Alec Atkinson delivered a game winning single for Traverse City’s first walk-off win of the season. The Pit Spitters took game one over the Rockford Rivets 4-3.
The Pit Spitters went up 3-0 early in the game. Colin Summerhill doubled home the opening run in the first. A couple innings later, he singled home another run in the third. A wild pitch scored the third run.
Summerhill moved into fourth place in doubles and RBIs in franchise single season history.
The Rivets closed the gap with two runs in the fourth before tying the game in the fifth. After that point, scoring would halt, and pitching would pick up.
Easton Johnson pitched two scoreless with three strikeouts. Mitch White matched with two scoreless of his own with three more strikeouts to set up the ninth.
With two outs, Trey Truitt doubled to left field. The next batter Alec Atkinson singled into center field to walk off a winner.

The final matchup with these two teams will be Friday at 7:05. Game will be followed with fireworks.
