Tigers’ Locke St. John: Sticks in Detroit organization

St. John signed a new contract with the Tigers in the minor league on Monday, reports Jason Beck of MLB.com.

St. John hasn’t appeared in the major leagues since 2019, but his performance at Triple-A Toledo could have put him on the cusp of a Detroit appeal last season. Over 36 appearances from the Toledo bullpen, St. John submitted a 2.58 ERA and a 75:25 K: BB in 59.1 innings. He should be given the opportunity to compete for a relief appearance with the big club in spring training, though his lack of a 40-man squad place makes it more likely that he will return to Toledo to start the 2022 campaign.
