Which Detroit team will be next to win a title?
The Detroit Pistons have brought some excitement to the city of Detroit, which has long been waiting for a winner.
All four of Detroit’s big pro teams have been bad lately, but there are also signs that they are changing things (sorry, not you, Lions).
With some fascinating young talent and fresh management and coaching, the Detroit sports landscape finally feels like it’s on the rise, but which of the four teams will win a title next?
There was a time when titles were a regularity in Detroit, as the Pistons and Red Wings dominated their respective leagues at times, and the Tigers made two World Series.
I don’t think a title is imminent for them, but things are turning and more banners could be on the way in the near future.
Least title win: Detroit Lions
The Lions are currently 0-5 and may have the worst roster in the NFL. If they didn’t win a single game this season, it wouldn’t surprise anyone. Some fans seem to like Dan Campbell, but don’t be surprised if he’s out before the Lions are good. The Lions have been a train wreck for most of my life and there really is no sign that this will change anytime soon.
The Detroit Tigers have some high-profile young talent and are likely a year or two away from being contenders for their division. You’ve probably exceeded expectations this season but will eventually have to beat the White Sox who have a ton of great young players.
I hate putting my Detroit Pistons second on this list, but I think they are a few more seasons away from being serious competitors.
With Cade Cunningham they finally have a potential superstar and with Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Saben Lee they have nice young talents. I really love Detroit’s Bank and I think they will continue to exceed expectations this season.
The Pistons will have a huge advantage as one of the few teams with Cap Space in the next off-season and will finally have a GM in Troy Weaver who seems to know what he’s doing.
I haven’t been so optimistic about the direction of the Pistons in a long time and think their restoration is not far behind.
The Detroit Red Wings will be the next Detroit team to win a title
The Red Wings, like the Pistons, were once the most dominant team in their sport, but then had a long stretch of mediocrity. The wings are led by Steve Yzerman, who appears to be one of the brightest minds in the game and, like Troy Weaver, a master of talent evaluation.
I’m not going to pretend to know anything about hockey, but from what I’ve read, the Wings have a lot of young talent with a lot more on the way. Hockey is also the fastest sport doing flip-flops, making it easier for a team to get from the basement to the title than in the NBA.
The Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings are all really building up with talented youngsters and smart management, so it shouldn’t be long before one of them breaks through and wins a title. I doubt either of us will live long enough for Lions to be good, but hey, three out of four aren’t bad.
