The Ann Arbor Athlete of the Week, May 3-8, winner dominates the fan poll and on the track

Conor Kolka is used to leaving his competition behind on the track. Fittingly, he did the same in the last Ann Arbor Athlete poll of the week.

Kolka is an outstanding distance runner for the Dexter athletics team. His efforts May 3-8 made him a popular choice in the Athlete of the Week poll, garnering 6,965 votes out of a total of 16,366 votes cast. With 42.56 percent of the vote, Kolka was way ahead of the 4,670 votes that the salty soccer player Libbey Hansen had collected.

In a double game against Chelsea on May 4, Kolka won the 1600 in 4: 39.25 and the 3200 in 9: 43.88. So far this season he has won five races in the 3200 and three in the 1600.

Of the 11 athletes who took part in the poll this week, four garnered over 1,000 votes.
