Progenity is laying off 110 laboratory workers in Ann Arbor in August
ANN ARBOR – Progenity, a San Diego-based biotechnology company, announced last week that it will be closing its genetic testing laboratory in Ann Arbor and laying off 110 permanent employees on Aug. 6.
As a result, the laboratory will no longer offer its Pre-Carrier Test, Congenital Prenatal Screen, Riscover Hereditary Cancer Test, or Resura Prenatal Test. The progeny are known for their genetic testing.
The layoffs are part of a wider downsizing that will result in 374 employees leaving the companies at Progenity and Avero, a subsidiary of Progenity. According to Progenity, employees make up around 56 percent of the company’s workforce.
Progenity reached a $ 49 million settlement with the U.S. government in July 2020 after it was accused of fraudulently billing federal prenatal testing health programs and bribing doctors.
