Take part in the “Scavenger Hunt on Wheels” at Scrapbox

ANN ARBOR, MI – Get creative – and competitive – this weekend’s street rally fundraiser hosted by Scrapbox Creative Reuse.

Scrapbox Creative Reuse, 4567 Washtenaw Ave. in Ann Arbor, invites the public to take part in a “scavenger hunt on wheels” from Ann Arbor to Ypsilanti, said Claire Tyra, director of Scrapbox.

The Reuse Road Rally fundraiser will take place on Sunday, October 24th from 2pm to 5pm. Registration costs $ 30 per car. In-store registration opens at 1:00 p.m., but tickets must be purchased online. The deadline for purchasing tickets ends on Friday, October 22nd, 11 p.m.

Scrapbox is a not-for-profit store that offers craft supplies like tiles, thread, embroidery floss, vintage photos, buttons, fabrics and paints, and more. The organization is working to educate consumers about creative reuse to get surplus craft supplies out of the waste stream.

The street rally fundraiser features a grand prize of $ 100 in “SCRAP” and other prizes from local businesses including gift cards and gift baskets from Trader Joe’s, Cherry Republic and Great Harvest Bread Co., as well as a Detroit Lions signed football guard Jonah Jackson.

At the start of the race, participants receive a package with instructions and, at each stop, send photos of their team and its mascot – made from recycled materials – to the organizers.

Previous fundraisers have raised a few thousand dollars, something Tyra hopes will happen again. The money from the fundraiser will be used for sustainability education, material donations, lesson plans, and creative reuse kits.

“It’s going to be really fun,” said Tyra.
