Take A Free, Guided Walking Tour of Grand Rapids’ Outside Art

It’s no secret that Grand Rapids is a city that loves art, from ArtPrize, one of the world’s largest art competitions, to the numerous murals in downtown Grand Rapids.

Wednesday through April, partnering with Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. and Grand Rapids Running Tours, you can take a free guided tour of the various public art and outdoor art paintings around Grand Rapids on buildings, overpasses, supply boxes, and more for the spring tours.

As their website reads

These are murals – street and wall art. – painted by artists celebrating beauty, calls to action or tributes to heroes. The murals transform otherwise imperceptible – or worse – rotten rooms into interesting, stimulating attractions.

The hiking tours are free and divided into two parts. You’ll see half of the tour on a Wednesday and the other half the next week. There is also an evening tour starting tonight and a morning tour next week that meets at 10am. All tours are free and start at Rosa Parks Circle and are first come, first served.

The schedule for the Miles of Murals Walking Tour with Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. is:

  • Wednesday, April 7th – 6pm, Miles of Murals Part 1 Walking Tour
  • Wednesday April 14th – 10am, Miles of Murals Part 1 Walking Tour
  • Wednesday, April 21 – 6pm, Miles of Murals Part 2 Walking Tour
  • Wednesday, April 28th – 10am, Miles of Murals Part 2 Walking Tour

As the Downtown Grand Rapids Inc post says, not all museums are inside.

Looking at these murals is a study of local history, community activism, and expressions of creative creativity … art all the time!
