Drive-By Paintball Shooting Trend Hits Grand Rapids

If you’ve played paintball before, you know that it doesn’t feel good to be shot. That’s why a new TikTok trend is very worrying, especially as it hits the West Side of Grand Rapids.

Over the past year there have been several TikTok viral videos of people doing drive-by shoots with paintball guns, and some people think the videos started a trend.

Over the past week there have been several reports of paintball shootouts in the drive-by on the west side of the city. According to an article on Wood TV 8, Steve Garvelink was the youngest victim and was shot while riding a bicycle “turning onto Mt Mercy Drive near Bridge Street”.

Garvelink was hit at close range with a paintball gun half a dozen times. The paintballs left multiple marks on Garvelink and he fell off his bike but was not seriously injured. It could have been much worse if he was hit in the face or if he fell off his bike causing further injuries.

The Garvelink paintball shoot was the most recent report in Grand Rapids, but a similar incident occurred in Florida a few days earlier.

The police are still looking for the person responsible and only know that the shots were fired from a silver limousine.

If you have any information about the shooting, you can contact the Grand Rapids Police Department at 616-456-3400 or the Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
