Lansing residents are advised to apply for child tax deduction by July 15th
LANSING, Michigan (WILX) – Lansing residents who don’t automatically qualify for child tax credit have until July 15 to see if they’re eligible and submit their information, Mayor Andy Schor said Monday.
Some families have already automatically qualified for the child tax credit. For example, families who applied for their federal taxes for 2019 or 2020, or for the stimulus, are automatically eligible for child tax credit payments and will not need to submit any additional information. But others can also qualify this year.
As part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, eligible families who failed to file their taxes or incentive are now entitled to $ 250 to $ 300 monthly payments for each child who is 17 years of age or younger. This means families can get between $ 3,000 and $ 3,600 per child in total this year. Payments will be made once a month from July and until the rest of this year.
“As we near the end of the pandemic, the economic struggles of the past year and a half are still very real for many Lansing families, and this new determination will help make ends meet,” Mayor Schor said.
How to submit information:
- Residents can view child tax credit prepayment requirements and submit their information on the IRS website.
- Residents can also use the Child Tax Credit Registration Tool to submit their information.
