Ronald F. Karle

Lansing – Professional journalist, veteran editor and loyal Spartan Ronald F. Karle, 83 years old, passed away on March 4, 2021. The owner and president of Karle Publications, Inc., Ron, specializes in the writing and publishing of magazines, periodicals and marketing materials. He graduated from Michigan State University’s School of Journalism in 1966, where he worked as a student editor and columnist for State News. Ron was the MSU Alumni Association’s publications director and editor of MSU Alumni Magazine for over 10 years. The alumni magazine won 14 national awards during its tenure and was twice named one of the ten best alumni publications in the country. In 1975 Ron received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the MSU College of Communication Arts. He was also the editor of Clinton County News and worked for the Detroit Bureau of the Associated Press, the Lansing State Journal, and the Detroit Free Press.

Ron was born on December 6, 1937 in Detroit to Frederick J. and Ruth (Becker) Karle. He lived in East Lansing throughout his career and was retiring. He was a dedicated member of the MSU University Club, served on the board of directors for many years, and served as club president from 1987-88. Friends and colleagues appreciated Ron for his dry sense of humor and passion for everything Spartan. Ron enriched the lives of those fortunate enough to call him friend.

Ron is survived by four cousins; Suzanne Karle, Gilbert Karle, Janet Karle DeCook and Katherine Karle McClure. Special thanks go to the staff and caregivers at Burcham Hills in East Lansing and Sparrow Hospital.
