Big Blue Swim School is slated to come to Ann Arbor in early 2022
ANN ARBOR, MI – An Ann Arbor businessman is bringing a new swimming school to town, construction begins in August and is expected to open in early 2022.
Hiag Avsharian, who grew up in Ann Arbor, plans to bring three Big Blue Swim Schools to town. The first is located at 914 West Eisenhower Parkway in Cranbrook Village and will be the school’s first location in Michigan, Avsharian said.
Big Blue Swim School starts teaching children 6 months and older with an emphasis on learning to use the water. Lessons are possible up to the age of 12 years.
“It also focuses on real swimming technique and how to become a strong swimmer,” Avsharian said.
Avsharian said he wanted the school to be a place where “especially the little ones” can gain more experience with water and water safety. He was originally inspired to start the school after looking to return to business ownership after working for startups.
Avsharian said he appreciates that the franchise is working to take kids beyond just swimming.
“It can take kids beyond water safety and get them into competitive swimming,” he said.
Big Blue Swim Schools is a chain of swimming schools with 120 locations across the country.
Although the school will currently only be open to children, Avsharian said he is also open to developing programs for adults if the franchise allows.
“It really is a swimming school for anyone who wants to learn,” he said.
