Metro Detroit family pleads for return of irreplaceable photos inside stolen backpack

DETROIT – A family in Rochester Hills had their car broken into on Sunday while attending church in downtown.

One of the items taken is likely worthless to thieves but cannot be replaced and now the family is calling for it to be returned.

After the Kasak family struggled to find parking near their church, they drove a few blocks to find parking on the street in downtown Detroit on a busy Sunday.

When they returned to their car, the family found that something very valuable to them had been lost.

“When we came out of church, someone broke your window, he was packing several bags in the car,” said Ryan Kasak, whose car was broken into.

Bags with wallets, credit cards and proof of identity. Everything interchangeable. When Kasak remembered that his hard drive was in one of the stolen bags, he was devastated

“So all of our family pictures from the last few years. Basically all the pictures of my children, baptisms, communions, birthdays, everything are there, ”he said.

The images are not stored anywhere else.

“Our daughter gave me a handful of about a dozen hand-drawn pictures when we got home yesterday to try to replicate films, if she knew. It was heartbreaking, ”said Kasak.

Even more heartbreaking is the loss of the pictures of Kasak’s twin sons, as their entire trip to the neonatal intensive care unit after they were born at 26 weeks of age was documented on this hard drive.

“When you are 17 or 20 years old and tell us that you cannot do something, or something is too difficult, or that life presents you with some kind of challenge that you cannot cope with, we wanted to present it to you in such a way that you would say what you have already overcome, ”said Kasak.

He asks anyone who comes across a green backpack to reach him. He promises to reward anyone who helps get their hard drive back.
