Parking spaces are not a guide
It’s a tragic story: an institution designed to train future leaders is run by people who don’t think about the future.
A parking lot on the 14th Street property of the Traverse City Area Public Schools is only used for efficient storage and movement of vehicles. What would actually be beneficial for the children of TCAPS is the accommodation. Safe and affordable housing for you and your parents. Residential stability provides the support that children need to be successful in school. They have an increased vocabulary and are more socially outgoing. Children who live in cities walk more and become healthy, sociable members of the community. Children and their families need to be woven into the structure of Traverse City.
TCAPS has the opportunity to lead the way by creatively designing mixed-use development that provides the stability children and parents need to become thoughtful and productive members in northern Michigan. This puts them, including TCAPS, at the center of a community that values active lifestyles, entrepreneurship and education. TCAPS is about to prove that they believe in the future by showing its students and families that they are valued future leaders.
