Vote no to proposal 1
Proposal 1 for the vote in Traverse City on Tuesday will almost double the spending authority of city administrations. A number of the city’s department heads have retired, gone, or been fired, and the fired treasurer claimed to have found something she felt was inappropriate. The city manager was called on the carpet for firing the city treasurer without due process.
As a snapshot of the current environment for municipal employees, I only see red flags. I can’t think of a worse time to approve something like this, especially since most of the candidates for the city commission have no relevant experience of local government work. This creates what I would call a high risk environment.
