Lansing husband charged with carjacking mom, 14 year old daughter in Oak Lawn

A man from Lansing was accused of stealing a mother and daughter at gunpoint in Oak Lawn on Saturday before leading police on a chase through several suburbs.

Gregory Shipp allegedly approached the woman and daughter in the driveway of their home on the 9700 block on Merton Avenue and called for their vehicle while he was aiming a gun, Oak Lawn police said.

A witness followed Shipp as he allegedly fled in the vehicle and was able to tell officers his whereabouts, police said.

Officers saw the vehicle in the Speedway parking lot near 79th Street and Harlem Avenue in Bridgeview, and Shipp started again and led the police in a multi-jurisdictional chase before hitting near 95th Street and LaGrange Road crashed into another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle refused to provide on-site medical care but was later examined at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

After the accident, Shipp allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a forest reserve, the police said.

He was found by the Burbank PD Canine Unit and taken into custody, according to police. A loaded 45-caliber semi-automatic pistol was also recovered from the scene, the police said.

Shipp is currently on parole for an attempted murder in 2020.

He has been charged with aggravated vehicle hijacking and is still on $ 750,000 bond.
