Man shot to death in downtown Grand Rapids overnight

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Two people were shot and one of them died early Sunday morning in downtown Grand Rapids.

Shortly after midnight, Grand Rapids police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting gunfire at block 300 on Ionia Avenue SW. Upon arrival at the scene, the officers found a man on the street. He was apparently shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The officers then learned that a second gunshot victim had arrived at a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

The dead person was identified as Michael Allen Jennings, 43, of Grand Rapids. An autopsy is performed by the Kent County Medical Examiner to determine the official cause and type of death.
