Join us “live” for Detroit’s Light Up the Season!

WXYZ DETROIT – Detroit’s Christmas tradition is “live” again this year. And it’s getting bigger, brighter and better than ever! On Friday, November 19th, Downtown Detroit is the place to be. All eyes will be on the tree lights of a 65 foot long Norwegian spruce grown in Michigan. The 2021 tree will be the tallest and lightest tree ever exhibited at Campus Martius Park. Join our Channel 7 broadcast team as 20,000 multi-colored LED lights come on.

This 18th annual celebration is the perfect way to officially open what was traditionally a live event before the pandemic last year. We are excited to announce that this year there will be a return to real-time performances, where audiences are invited to join the free celebrations. For those who want to watch from the comfort of their own home, all you have to do is tune in to our special “Light Up the Season” from 7pm to 8pm on Friday, November 19th.

The Downtown Detroit Partnership and the DTE Energy Foundation have put together a top-class entertainment program. The ice rink will feature performances by Olympic and US figure skating champion Ashley Wagner and national singing sensation Cam Anthony. Local Queen of the Blues entertainer Thornetta Davis will showcase her talent alongside Ryan Neal, a popular Detroit songwriter and producer. Another important part of the Christmas tradition will be the “Light Up Beacon Park”.

Channel 7 is proud to be the official broadcaster for the Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony. We are the right place to catch it all and get your Christmas season off to a festive and unforgettable start.
