high school football 8 from Greater Lansing in Associated Press poll

The climb up the state rankings for the Mason football team has taken it to the top spot.

The Bulldogs head into the final week of the regular season ranked No. 1 in Division 3.

Mason, the last remaining unbeaten team in Greater Lansing, replaced reigning state champion Detroit King as the No. 1 team Detroit King suffered a Week 8 loss to Detroit Cass Tech.

The Bulldogs have won seven of their eight games by double digits while positioning themselves to have a third perfect regular season in four years. CAAC Red champion Mason, which reached the state semifinals last fall, has an average margin of victory of 32.7 points. The Bulldogs close the regular season at home against winless Eaton Rapids.

Mason is one of eight teams from Greater Lansing featured in the rankings heading into Week 9.

Charlotte climbed back into the top 10 in Division 4 at No. 10 after its road road win over previously unbeaten Flint Hamady.

Corona is No. 4 and CAAC White champion Portland is up to No. 5 in Division 5 this week. Portland picked up a road win last week over then Division 3 No. 10-ranked Cadillac., while Corunna edged Swartz Creek in a Flint Metro crossover.

Ithaca is No. 4 in Division 7 and routed Carrollton to push his win streak to six. Fowler, which claimed a share of the CMAC title with its win over Saranac, is No. 6 in Division 8.

Morrice is the other area team in the poll and is no. 5 in 8 player Division 2.
