Help the Partman Family Find A Northern Michigan Dream Home – mynorth.com
Traci and Matt Partman were born and raised in Chicago, but now with three kids ages 2, 5 and 7, they were ready for a change. Their oldest, Bella, has a rare genetic disorder and they wanted a yard to play in and a quieter neighborhood. When Matt was offered a position as sales and marketing director for Tamarack Lodge in Traverse City, they seized the opportunity. Matt has a family in Leelanau County – his grandparents were one of the first to have a year-round house on Leelanau Lake – and he spent his summers as a kid up north, later bringing Traci and her children with him. “The chance to live and work here was kind of surreal,” says Traci.
Before leaving Chicago, when she was still deciding if the move would be a good fit, Traci posted on a Facebook group asking questions about schools in the area, special needs resources, and realtors. Traverse City Realtor Erika Nita answered. “If you know her, you know she’s so amazing what she does, but she’s a great person too,” says Traci. “She lets you know right away that she cares. She listens, hears what you need, and doesn’t waste time – it’s real business with her. “
The Partmans were looking for a ready-to-move four-bedroom home with a large attached garage between $ 350,000 and $ 400,000 and were open to either the east or west side of the city (they took an hour and a half to get to work in Chicago). So a 30 minute drive on the lake would be a treat!). They also had to take into account the distance to Bella’s school so that she wouldn’t have a long bus ride.
The real challenge, however, was getting around during a pandemic. The family decided to move into a rental house first in May so that they wouldn’t have to search for a house five hours away with Erika. “It was a really interesting time to be looking for a home,” says Traci. “It was right when the restrictions were lifted and we were able to switch from virtual demonstrations to face-to-face demonstrations. we were nervous. It was a crazy time going into people’s homes. “
With Erika’s help, Traci and Matt toured eight houses and narrowed them down to their first three.
