East Grand Rapids’ Olivia Brown finds new college basketball home

Valparaiso University women’s basketball officials announced that Olivia Brown has moved to the Indiana-based school.

Brown, who starred before graduating from East Grand Rapids High School in 2018, has played at St. Bonaventure for the last two seasons.

“Olivia is both a great young person and a great basketball player,” Valparaiso coach Mary Evans said in a statement. “She was a player we picked as a high school graduate and I’m delighted that she chose Valpo to end her career. Olivia will give us extra depth in wing position and is a gifted marksman who can guard too.

“Family is a huge focus of our program, and family is very important to her. I’m glad we can help her get closer to her family in Michigan.”

Brown, a 5-foot-8 guard, has started 35 games for the Bonnies in the past two years. In total, she saw 51 games. Brown averaged 7.2 points per game and 12 goals in double numbers over their two seasons. It drained 39 3-handers last winter.

Brown is the eldest of three sisters. Jillian Brown, who is graduating from EGR this spring, was named Grand Rapids Player of the Year for the second year running this week, finishing third in the Miss Basketball poll. She’ll be playing in the northwest. Macy Brown, a sophomore student, has 10 Division I offerings, including four from the Big Ten.
