Driver crashes into baggage stand outside Detroit Metro Airport

A driver suffered a medical emergency outside the McNamara terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Saturday morning and crashed into a baggage rack on the side of the road.

According to the airport authorities, the male driver lost control of the vehicle around 7.45 a.m. and crashed into a Skycap stand on the departure level of the terminal. Police and fire brigade were dispatched to the scene.

The driver sustained minor injuries and two others hit by the debris from the impact also sustained minor injuries, one of which was rushed to a local hospital. The only passenger in the car was not injured, said Erica Donerson, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County Airport Authority.

Two lanes were temporarily closed on the departure level, but airport operations were not affected by the crash, Dönerson said.

Donerson said they have not yet confirmed what type of medical emergency caused the crash.
