Detroit Lions Alex Anzalone Discusses Battling T.J. Hockenson

For the first few days of the training camp, the Detroit Lions roster practiced without pads.

It made for routine practice, but one moment stood out for linebacker Alex Anzalone during practice on Monday.

It’s not a secret tight end that TJ Hockenson has in store for a sizeable number of goals in 2021.

At one game, Hockenson secured the reception and was chased by Anzalone, who then pushed Hockenson to the ground and attracted the applause of the fans.

Dismissed the heightened physicality as “just soccer, just soccer” when asked by SI All Lions, Anzalone stated that the game of defense was aimed at keeping energy levels at an appropriate level.

“Every time we linebacker against TJ, we get better. He’s obviously one of the more athletic tight ends in the league, but he’s also a complete tight end, ”said Anzalone. “There are a lot of guys who only get tight ends and he isn’t and he can block. He can do a lot of things. “

Like many others, Anzalone is well aware that Lions and their fan base are desperately trying to change their fortunes.

“This city deserves winners,” said Anzalone. “As far as I know, this has not been the case in the past, and we’re just trying to turn it around.”
