Ceremony for the new wellness center

LAKE CITY – An open day for the new Lake City Wellness Center is scheduled for October 13th from 5pm to 7pm. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. in the center of Lake City Middle School at 251 E. Russell Street.

The wellness center opened in July. It is a collaboration between the Lake City School District and the District Health Department # 10. The wellness center provides “health services for Missaukee County’s youth, including medical and mental health services, health promotion / disease prevention education, and referral services,” according to a press release.

Staffed by Nurse Jessica Smith, Mental Health Clinic Leilani Kitler, and Clinical Assistant Teresa Carrington, the center is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students or parents can make an appointment by calling (231) 282 -9039.

College Night set for October 14th

TRAVERSE CITY – Northwest Education Services and Northwestern Michigan College are hosting College Night on October 14th from 6pm to 8pm

The free event for high school students and their families takes place at the NMC Physical Education Center, 1860 College Drive.

Representatives from more than 40 public and private colleges, universities and military service organizations will be available to assist with post graduation elections. Information on grants is also provided.

Honor Thy Neighbor Campaign UnderwayHONOR – Honor Bank encourages the community to donate to the Honor Thy Neighbor Campaign and will match contributions of up to $ 10,000. The campaign runs until October 15th.

Honor Thy Neighbor’s $ 20,000 campaign goal will benefit the Northwest Food Coalition and other local food supplies.

Oct 15 deadline for taxpayers

DETROIT – The Internal Revenue Service recalled an estimated 344,400 Michiganers who asked to have their 2020 tax returns extended by October 15 to file their return and avoid fines.

The IRS also urges everyone to file electronically to avoid delays and expedite returns processing

IRS Free File is available to taxpayers who earned $ 72,000 or less in 2020.

Careers fair for Benzie seniors

BEULAH – A student career exhibition for graduates of Benzie Central and Frankfurt-Elberta High School is planned for October 26th at Benzie Central High School. The event starts at 9 a.m.

The event is a partnership between BEST (Building Education Success and Training) Benzie County, the Benzie Area Chamber of Commerce and Benzie Sunrise Rotary Club. Regional organizations, business owners, and military representatives will answer questions about post-graduate professions.

The keynote by speaker Anne Bonney is entitled “Igniting Your Courage”.

The region’s sponsors include Crystal Mountain, the Rotary Club Frankfurt, Gerhart Forestry, Graceland Fruit, Honor Onekama Building Supply, Kathy Neveu-Realtor, and Webber Insurance.

GTI receives $ 10,000 grant

TRAVERSE CITY – Grand Traverse Industries received a $ 10,000 grant from the Timken Foundation to purchase a new screw compressor, according to a press release.

The new air compressor upgrade will complement the expansion of GTI’s production building at 2170 Traversefield Drive. The 30,000 square meter expansion includes new training, storage and production areas.

The Timken Company bought Cone Drive from Traverse City in 2019. Cone Drive recommended GTI to the Foundation for their first Local Community Support Grant in Traverse City, according to a press release.

Arcturo’s dining series returns

SUTTONS BAY – The Inn at Black Star Farms announced that its Arcturos Dining Series will return once a month for the remainder of 2021.

Events are scheduled for October 30th, Thanksgiving weekend, and New Years Eve. According to a communication, further events are to be planned in 2022.

The wine-paired dinners were discontinued in early 2020, but will be offered in May 2021. Dinner starts with a seasonal cocktail and each course is presented with a pair of wines by the chef and a winery representative.

TRAVERSE CITY – Pulmonary & Critical Care in northwest Michigan has joined Munson Healthcare. The practice’s new name at 5087 N. Royal Drive, Suite B is Munson Healthcare Pulmonary & Critical Care of Northwest Michigan.

Services include “pulmonary function tests and bronchoscopy, including endobronchial ultrasound-guided biopsy,” according to the press release.

Foundation extends application deadline

MANISTEE – The Manistee County Community Foundation has extended the deadline for its final 2021 grant application to October 29th, the Minger Family Endowment Fund, ”read a press release.

The extension has no effect on the announcement of the scholarship award on December 31st.

Eligible applicants include “501 © 3 nonprofits, school districts, government units, including nationally recognized tribal governments and other tax-exempt organizations,” the press release said.

Copper Aesthetics starts in TC

TRAVERSE CITY – Copper Ridge Plastic Surgery Center is rebranding its skin care services, Copper Aesthetics.

Copper Aesthetics offers “skin care and laser treatments, exclusive skin care products and non-surgical body treatments …”, it said in a press release.

Dr. Christopher Jeffries said there are plans to open a second Copper Aesthetics location in Petoskey.

Sport Clips starts fundraising campaign

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Sport Clips Haircuts launched its Help A Hero Veterans Scholarship Campaign.

The campaign is raising funds for scholarships for U.S. soldiers and veterans. Donations can be made until November 13th at any Sport Clips location or by SMS to ‘HERO’ at 71777. The goal is to raise $ 1.5 million.

On Veterans Day, November 11th, participating stores will be offering free haircuts, and veterans with military IDs will also donate $ 2 per hair care service to the campaign by Sport Clips.

Help A Hero scholarships are available for up to $ 5,000 per semester and “cover tuition and fees for military personnel ranked E-5 and below,” the statement said. For more information on the program, visit SportClips.com/hero.
