Lansing County MPs arrest the lacking lady

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVNS) – – 2:45 p.m., Dec. 21, 2019 LATEST: Mary Cathleen Haley-Scott was tried in Lansing County District Court on Saturday, December 21, 2019, where she was placed on a $ 500 bond for obstruction of a West Virginia official.

Sheriff Scott VanMeter confirmed that Haley-Scott was charged after he refused to obey orders from two Lansing County MPs found in an apartment complex in Beckley on Friday, December 20, 2019. They were supported by the Beckley Police Department.

She is being held in the Southern Regional Jail awaiting extradition to Smyth County Virginia, where she will also be charged.

Lansing County Sheriff’s MPs arrested Haley-Scott on Friday, December 20, 2019. She was arrested for being a Virginia justice refugee and interfering with a West Virginia officer.

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVNS) – 6:15 p.m. Dec. 18, 2019 LATEST: New developments in the case of a missing woman in Lansing County could suggest she had a reason to go into hiding. Lansing County MPs confirmed that Mary Cathleen Haley-Scott is not only missing, but wanted.

Family members reported her missing on Monday, December 16, 2019. She was last seen in Lansing County.

Days before she disappeared, Haley-Scott’s husband was arrested in Wythe County Virginia for domestic violence, and Haley-Scott reported the incident. Lansing County Sheriff Scott Van Meter told 59News that her husband, William Scott, was nothing but cooperative.

Through the investigation, MPs learned that Haley-Scott, of Smyth County, Virginia, is wanted.

“We learned that she is on charges and is being wanted by the Smyth County’s Virginia Sheriff’s Department for a major theft,” VanMeter said. “She is being tried and wanted in Virginia on criminal charges, but we still consider her a missing person.”

On Wednesday, MPs searched the area for signs of Haley-Scott, but when the sun went down it is still nowhere to be found.

BECKLEY, W.Va. (WVNS) – 12:30 p.m. December 18, 2019 UPDATE: A missing woman’s husband has been arrested in Wythe County, Virginia for domestic violence. The incident happened just days before she was last seen.

According to court records, William J. Scott was arrested on December 11, 2019. He is charged with assaulting a family member.

The victim of the case, Mary Cathleen Haley-Scott, was reported missing on Monday, December 16. According to the Wythe County Sheriff’s Department, there is no active investigation into Ms. Haley-Scott’s disappearance in Virginia. There’s a case in Lansing County, West Virginia.

Wythe County MPs raised concerns on social media that Ms. Haley-Scott may have been killed and the body dumped in a lake in the rural retreat. They said there is no evidence to support this speculation.
