Wintry mix expected to be on its way

DETROIT – Spring hasn’t come yet. A wintry mix and even some snow are rolling in.

We’re seeing a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and northern Indiana snow. It will spread to the area after sunset (now after 7pm). Expect the mix early and especially in the south zone. Most of the precipitation north of I-94 will consist entirely of snow. There will be enough to accumulate. But these will likely be raised surfaces and possibly some areas of grass. Difficult to measure, but should be less than an inch. There are better chances of accumulation in the northern zone and in the northern part of the western zone. You can find these numbers on our 4ZONE page. But remember, this will fall. Not everything will last. So it doesn’t look like we need shovels for that. Most of the frozen things will be gone by daybreak. However, expect light rain in the morning when the system shuts down.

We are dry from Tuesday afternoon to bright and early Thursday morning. Rain comes for the morning drive and stays with us all day. We are on the northern edge of this system, so there is still a question of how far north the rain comes. Right now it probably looks south of 8 mile and possibly north of there.

Unlike last week, the weekend will be the best (and almost warmest part of the forecast). We have a lot of sunshine and a little more than normal highs in our upper 40s.
